That's exactly what I'm doing! I rang exotic and spoke to a bloke called mark, who was much more helpful over the phone, except he never rang me back with his quote.
Doesn't matter though! Im not going back to pacific in pymble. They had no idea what was going on, I was down in the workshop with their supposed 'head' mechanic arguing with him about whether there was 2 or 3 chains. A quick google image search meant I got to prove him wrong and have my mind made up. It's bad enough they were trying to squeeze every dollar out of me, but to do that with out knowing what you're doing is a bit *****.
Ill ring exotic in parra again tomorrow get their price and just go there.

Does anyone know if the transmission actually has to come out to do the lower chain? Cause if it does I might get a clutch and fly wheel at the same time (pending how many pennies I can pinch)

Yes gearbox has to come off. Avoid the spec kits. Clutchmasters/southbend get good reviews.

I'd opt for a single mass flywheel; will make the car much more rev happy. But you more than likely will get a slight chatter when stopped at lights etc.

As Hayden mentioned, the box will need to come out to do the chains. You can speak to Arthur about clutch/flywheel options as I'm sure he has the ability to get something to suit.

Alternatively get in touch with Ben or Chris @ Tarmac Engineering, they sell the Southbend DXD kits and they're a great bit of hardware, they run a revised SMF so that chatter is minimal.. Jed runs this kit and loves it

The Southbend/DxD kits are tops as far as feel go and reliability seems to be good to. The single mass flywheel makes heel-toeing a breeze, and the engine definitely likes revving up a little faster, and dropping revs a lot faster, however it does mean there is a fair bit of chatter. I'm currently awaiting a Fluidampr crank pulley harmonic balancer which is supposed to greatly reduce this as well as many other things.

The other option is to do what Corey and some others have. New stock flywheel and throwout bearing with a Sachs clutch. This seems o be another great option especially if the car does daily duties and regularly sees traffic etc.

what do you mean by "chatter"? is it a shaking? a noise? a combination of both? a slight shake im not too worried about. but if its going to be uncomfortable ill get dual mass. i was thinking if im replacing it, go single mass light weight because it does make a great difference for driving. but now youve got me worried about this chatter thing... just how bad is it?

im thinking ill just get this ecs kit. clutch master clutch and fidanza fly wheel at 8 pounds/3.6kgs is pretty good! also its the cheapest which is a big help Volkswagen R32 MKIV 3.2 Drivetrain Clutch ES#1844061 Stage 1 Clutch Kit - Aluminium Flywheel (8.5lbs.) - 02M6SPDS1KTWF
i looked at tarmac doing the southbend kits, but at 1400 before post id rather just get the ecs assembled kit.

booked it in today at exotic cars! theyre still not cheap, but came in $1000 less than pacific's starting price and they said theyll squeeze a bit out of it if i pay cash which is even better! its booked for the 30th

It's just like a faint ticking noise. For the benefits it's completely worth it.

Here is a video of the chatter noise from the outside. It is much quieter from inside
It's a little annoying but when you're on the loud pedal rowing up and down gears, the benefits outway the chatter.
Also the chatter only occurs when the clutch is out and you're in neutral, so if you're clutched in there is no noise

thank you hayden! a ticking noise i can live with, single mass it is! i also dont like the idea of dual mass because you cant machine them once they wear, apparently.

i just stumbled across this video SPEC Clutch Part 1 - YouTube
whats so bad about these spec kits? i watched the video the whole way through, at the start he cant go back to second, but on the last few shifts he can. so is it a temperature issue? whats so bad about spec?

Yeah Mal and Ben both had bad experiences. From memory the clutch disk was to big and constantly grabbing or something.

This is the car I'm basing my smf over dmf debate. It was mental fun.

The single mass flywheel is quite heavy duty so if you tend to drive the car daily, your left foot will get a good work out which can sometimes become irritating at the same time. It also shudders if don't get the right rhythm going and its very loud.

Thought I would let you know that to buy a new OEM clutch from the stealers it would cost - $2300 (clutch, flywheel, breather, G/B bolts) at trade prices as well Frank..
