Installing MFD Version G in a MKIV R32

Hi everyone, I have recently purchased an MFD Version G (Part No: 3B0 035 191G) from ebay UK. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience installing these as most of the posts on forums are for other countries. It came with a 'plug and play' adapter and GPS module. The installation of the unit itself should be quiet straightforward, its just the wiring I'm worried about as there is heaps of conflicting information out there. One last thing, I have tried contacting VW Australia in regards to a map CD for this unit and they seem to think that the Whereis V14 Australian Map CD (Part No: F005X13050) will work but they won't give a guarantee so I will have to pay $400 for the CD and if it doesn't work, no refund. If anyone has any information about this it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    gambl0r

You want to speak to graeme86 on here, he is the guru when it come to wiring anything OEM or after market into a MKIV R32 and should have all the info you need.

I have installed a "low line" MCD navi in my Mk IV R32 - it was plug and play to get it going.

In fact, I just plugged in the old Gamma radio harness - haven't even connected up the reverse signal yet and its extremely accurate even without that.

The VW Australia V.13 CD works flawlessly in mine, so you should not have a problem in that respect.

I presume you don't have a full height cluster, so in your case, it should be plug and play without the extra TMC box even (TMC is only needed to get display in dash as well with a version G).

VW have even kindly left two loose ABS feeds and a loose reverse wire under the dash for you to tap onto to get the proper signals, if you need to splice into them.

It will probably work okay anyway with just the GALA signal thats in the original radio harness - the plug and play harness you have probably has another GALA tap on it already that will run up to the multipin plug on the back of the Navi.

You just need to tell the navi its getting the GALA pulse for its readings and not the ABS pulse signal, otherwise it will be all over the shop. (ABS pulses about 5x the rate of the GALA pulse)

Thanks graeme86, I'll order the V14 CD of the maps and then its just a matter of waiting for the removal keys in the mail.

    Thanks again,

Before you order, check with VW or sensis for a date on the V15 maps.

Any wider shots that show the full install at all? Also do you still get an in dash six stacker with this or is it gone or relocated?

Treza360: the slot in the CD player is only for the maps CD. You can mount the stock 6 disc CD player in the glovebox and control it from the MFD. There is a guide on another forum listed here:
