We did that recall in the Uk about 4 years ago. Well not a recall but all the coil packs were going down and basically if one coil went down then you replaced it under warranty, if the car returned with another misfire and another dirrerent coil had gone then you chnaged all the remaining coils at the same time under warranty. VW coil's not one of there best ideas! -VW-

It would be interesting to know what revision of the coils they are putting in cars as the replacement. At least that way we can order the same revision from somewhere like ECS.

Anyone interested in a GB if I can get the info?

I sent a email to VW Australia about this in 2004 when I bought my Mk4. The answer was 'this is not applicable to Australia market Mk4 Golf'.

btw, my Mk4 has done 130K, so far no issue with coil pack.

I bet all those people in Australia who have had coilpack issues would disagree. I sincerely doubt that we got different coilpacks to the US market cars...

btw, my Mk4 has done 130K, so far no issue with coil pack.

That's good to know. My car has ~90,000km on the clock and no issues that I'm aware of in this area, but I'm not looking forward to it when it does eventually happen.

The recalls are sometimes not always to go with the type of part but the manufacture that made them, VW can use many different manufactures for the same part depending on that country they are in. So sometimes thats why the recall is country related, Ie, a certain manufacture made these coils that were only put into cars going to the US market.
But a still agree these coils are just Sh*t all over the world!!!!!!!!!!........VW.

I am guessing this has now reached Australia guys...

Just called my local VW dealer to get a quote on the 75k service, and when he brought the VIN up in the system, the recall came up saying that mine was affected !?

Might be an idea for you all to give your local VW a call with your VIN and see if you are affected.

The vehicles affected in this action include cars equipped with 1.8 liter engines, which includes the Audi TT and A4; and the VW Golf/GTI, Jetta, New Beetle and Passat. The companies also included the Passat W8 engine, all VW's equipped with the 2.8 liter VR6; as well as the Audi 3.0 liter V6 engine. In total, approximately 530,000 cars are affected by this action.
