Thread: Idiots guide to Performance CHIPS

  1. #31

    Hi Mate,

No problems, 195 - 200 kw at the fly, you will be pretty close with software & air intake.

We never finished our headers for the MKIV as there didn't appear to be the sales there to justify the extra costs in R&D. We could do it, but need to justify it. A lot of our headers go to the UK. -

When we did the R32 MKIV (almost 4 years ago) we picked up gains from the catback, but on the MKV we saw zero extra hp (sounded good but no gains!)

With the APR you can also switch to the 104 ron program when you need the extra go - one customer recently tested this at Queensland Raceway, and it picked him up a couple of seconds a lap (with no other changes) - so thats prety effective too. Only problem is ~ $7-00 a litre!

There's the real proof of I was just saying... Under 8kw gain all round and under 10Nm torque for just software...
And most of all, not much at all at driveable range ( under 4000 rpm). You need to go full exhaust, intake AND software to be felt ( about 30Nm gain).

If it is a track car, then each kw counts, hands down do it.But then you need suspension and breaks mods too...

But if it a "riced up" city commuter, sorry, you have just lost 4G's or whatever the full cost is for all those mods.

Torque is correct - I threw in the Cayman S & the 130i for fun as its interesting how the manufacturers can get such different power out of near ssame capacity 6 cylinder cars.

What you realy need is an RS6 with a couple of turbo's so you can turn up the boost & make some good numbers (check out the wall of torque!)

Now THAT will be felt ... Awesome.

Hmmm... Lots more interesting food for thought. The plan has always been to get the chip, I know the gains aren't that great but the seller for me is the removal of the hole at around 4000rpm.
Like balkanac, the thought of 200kW sounds nice to me. The plan is towards the end of the year once a few other bits and pieces are added is to do the intake and chip together. According to the US Vortex guys the flapper mod also gives a few kW and Nm as well across the entire range.
I'm not after huge power gains, I know that getting them out this car will hurt my wallet very very much but improving usability in addition to gaining a little is never gonna hurt.
