    What type of car?
My 01 bora i looked at it, take the 'boot card' off, then there was screws i think, when you remove it there is a recessed part of the boot, so as well as the hole you'd have to fill it in.

If its on golf, just heat it up with a hairdryer and use some floss to run between it and the car. Once you have the whole unit off you need to pull the VW logo away from the black plastic backing. i just drilled the small plastic plugs out to do this. Super easy.
Check out Vortex if you have any issues, they have a couple of DIY's on it.
