    How much to replace driveshaft?

    Hi guys,

Passenger driveshaft looks like it needs replacing - I know the part can be had for about USD$100 but how much can I expect to source it for locally and how much to get it installed?

    Cheers,

What does 'looks like it needs replacing mean' exactly? Are you saying that a cv joint is worn?

Why not just get them rebooted?

Turn off for 1 minute then back on

The boot can be replaced for a lot less than a new CV, if you get it done before dirt and grit gets into the joint.

I was assuming it would be just as cheap and/or better to replace the whole unit considering the labour involved and also thought they may only be sold as a sealed unit..

I went to one of those driveshaft reconditioning places when my Liberty split the boot. 2x new boots & a palm full of grease was about $100 inc R&R

Replacing the boots, and renewing the grease is more labor-intensive and time-consuming than replacing the whole driveshaft. But at around $35 for a genuine boot kit (You'll need both an inner and outer kit), they work out cheaper, parts-wise.

I'd be quoting around 45mins to simply replace the shaft, as opposed to around 1.5hrs to re-grease and re-boot.
