It's normal behavior, have had the car for 8 years and mine does it on the odd cold start
I'm probably going to annoy everybody by asking a million questions as I get used to my Bora 4motion but....
This morning it was COLD when I started the car, dash showed 7 degrees ambient temp I think, but it started fine and all was well.
This afternoon I started it after work, dash showed 14 degrees ambient temp, and it started first go but then idled at about 1200-1300 for about 30-45 seconds, it sounded like the radiator fan was running really high too. By the time I got out and opened the hood it had settle back down to it's usual idle at around 700rpm.
Climate control was on both times.
After I drove it for a while this afternoon I stopped for a few minutes and when I came back it started fine, idled like normal at around 700rpm.
As I have only had the car since yesterday I have only started it from cold a few times but this time today was the only time it has idled at anything above 700. Is this a symptom of something that I should get checked or it it just normal behaviour?

Thanks.
I'm still in the new car paranoia phase where every noise it makes sends me into freak-out mode
No
Yeah, I know what it's like
Great car, if you take care of it, it'll last forever

mine does it as well always has, its like an automatic choke that kicks in when the car is cold. I have found if the ambient temp is really cold which is pretty much all of winter it doesn’t do it, it just starts and idles normally its bizarre. i did the cams in mine and find that when it does it now starts surging
My R32 does the same thing and its been doing it for the last 4 years i have owned it. nothing to be worried about

All "modern" cars do it in order to get the Catalytic Converters up to temperature as soon as possible, and also so they can run at "lambda 1" asap etc.
Thanks for all the replies guys, the thing that freaked me out was that it doesn't do it if the ambient temp is really cold, it just starts normally then, but as vwsport confirms that is exactly what his does too I feel much better about it.
