Help wanted for minor problems with Bora V6

I had a new gearshift boot made in leather by my local car upholstery/motor trimmer guy. Leather colour & stitching colour of my choice $25 inc GST. Worth every penny

He needed the old boot as a pattern.

Car came with only one key, and no 'code tag' as per the instruction book. VW dealer has quoted $444 for new key plus $88 for recoding - wouldn't think there is any way around this, but would be interested in any potential alternatives.

Driver's door squeaks - dealer said to rub some silicone on it, which I have done, but it still squeaks. Again it's not a major issue but would be nice to cure.

I just bought a new key for a MK V Golf and it cost me $381.00 incl GST and that included reprogramming both the new and existing remotes to the car. The VW dealer will only need your VIN / Chassis number and proof of ownership to be able order a new key in for you, it could take a while though mine was about 6 weeks.

If you haven't already, check and make sure that all the bolts on the door hinge are tight, when I took delivery of my new GT TDI last year, when I arrived home and got out of the car I discovered that 2 of the hinge bolts were loose.

Just the local mob at Carlton - 500m walk from home. Chosen based on walking around the local industrial area there and asking for quotes (there are 3 or 4 motor trimmers in the area), they were the cheapest & friendliest & I'd bought a console off them for my Capri in 1983

Hi mate,

I was recently in the same situation with you as I only recieved one key upon purchase of my Mk4. I got the non-remote, non-switchblade key for $205+$61 programmed. The remote replacement was going to work out like you said, $434+$60ish.

I just made do with this more basic key in order to save a few hundred dollars. I am just wondering why they would charge you $88 for programming when I was told it was a flat fee of $60, even with full remote key. Seems like even more of a rip-off.

The dealer where I bought the car has come to the party and is going to help with the costs - still high but saving about 15%. I still find it hard to see why it can be so expensive, but I guess sometimes you have to go with the flow!
