I don't think it will offer the leverage required.

Yep, that's the one I got. Didn't budge, also used a leather belt (found it to be more useful) but still wouldn't budge

Anyway, new problem. Checking the oil level with the dipstick and whilst inserting the dipstick back in the dipstick housing/tube cracked. Just not my day today.. what should have been a 30 min job has left me carless

Anyone know if these tube are easy to source from the dealers?

Most of the bigger dealers should have them on the shelf, if not, they'll be able to get you one overnight.

If you go to any of the auto accessory chains and tell them what you want they will know what you are after. I doubt that Bunnings will have one.

Try SuperCheap, Auto One, Autobarn, Robbo's, Repco, etc.

Once you've got that Ryco filter off (553 by any chance?)
    Find one of these,

And buy Genuine Mahle/knecht or Mann filters and never go through this again.

    Just one more thing.

When you do get it off, if you decide to replace the oil filter yourself, NEVER use a tool of any type to tighten it. These filters are designed to be tightened by hand (no tools) only. Some filters used to have a hexagonal nut built into the end to help removal, but some people ended up using it to tighten it. As a result, these nuts were dropped.

Dipstick tubes available from the dealers for about $20. I fitted 1 last week.

Take your VIN with you so I cam ensure you get the right one.

And since you'd be throwing the old filter away, I'd follow the suggestions above and stab it with a screwdriver.
