help with mods on VW GTI Mark IV
Hey all I bought this silver GTI Mark 4 and am wrapped so far.
I just started to read a lot of your comments in regards to GTI's
I would appreciate some help in doing some mods to my standard GTI without spending a huge amount.
What do you guys suggest

There are many different things that have been covered if you search through the MKIV forum.
You will find suspension (sway bars/ springs/ shocks) are common first up.
There are options for tuning via chipping, however there are too many threads on this.
I think that simple cosmetic mods like debadging help in the subtle toughness stakes.
Good luck!

thanks for the info.
I am more interested in performance than looks I think the car looks good as it is
If I was to chip the car followed by the exhaust and TIP what would this set me back and what KW amount would I gain

hey buddy
performance Wise
do the following (in this order)
1. Clutch (Convert to Single Mass Fly Wheels 288mm VR6 Clutch) & Stiffend Dogbone Mount & Audi TT Diverter Valve 710N
2. Exhaust & Downpipe with cat. if you dont do the down pipe dont waste your time with the exhaust.. its pointless imho
3. Chip - Suggest getting a Chip done by Superchips. peter flys over from NZ regularly to chip cars in Oz.
4. Suspention - Bilstien or similar Shocks with a 40 40 Drop Kit.. if you go any lower you run in to sway bar issues and you no longer improve your handling as the geometry of the suspention dictates other wise
my 2000 AGU Gti had 130kw at the wheels. which in turn equated to around 220hp
check out my old GTI in my Signature, i work off the keep it simple concept..
that the most effective way (in my opinion) to get performance and handling out of your GTI
if you want blow off valve PSH noises and wank factor like that (its not a bad thing just dont put a atmospheric bov you will **** the car) buy a CAI (if you want a cold air feed) & if you dont give a toss about warm air being induced then slap a pod on to the end of your Mass airflow sensor.
and once you want to take the perfroamnce a step further you can do a intercooler enlargment, turbo enlargement or just whack some silicone pipes in the loop..
if you dont do your clutch first it wont last very long under chipped conditions..
check out www.eurospecsport.com or www.ecstuning.com for clutch options and other cool mods...

i'm also a new silver GTi MK4 owner.
i found this to be a good source of info and this forum is great as many here will attest to:

Personally i'm not going to do any mods aside from the short shift kit i did and replacing the gear boot. But I am interested in coming out and chatting to others about what they have done. contrary to what i just said I may do some small free mods as per the ones in the thread above.
out of interest i have been researching different turbo set-ups and i would like to 'theoretically' plan up a sequential twin turbo set up for the car which uses the stock turbo but adds another bigger turbo.
i was also looking at doing the K04-001 swap but once i touch one thing then you got to do the next and so on and the $ start to add up as most of you know.
i ride bikes and i get my speed and tuning fix out of that.
have fun.
