Hoping some people can help me out here.

Volkswagen tell me the part numbers for the door lock module is 6X2837014H (Drivers) and 6X2837013H (Passenger) but I can not find this part on the interwebz anywhere.

Surely there are some options other than just Volkswagen direct?

    Any ideas where to look?

Partsale.eu have stopped selling most of their VW bits.

Has anyone else had to buy these brand new? Is this the only part number they were given? I Don't mind if it's the not the latest revision.

    Or second hand?

I didn't get any answers from anyone here. But I can try an help.

I ended up going to a reputable wrecker and using second hand parts because I couldn't establish if the parts on ebay were compatible with Australian VWs.

That said, your next option is to look for equivalent parts on UK Ebay which might get you new parts cheaper than what is available here.

I discovered that MK4 golfs were being sold as brand new cars in China up until about 2010 or 2012 (I don't remember the exact year they discontinued them), but Chinese authorities require parts to be available for a significant time after the discontinuation of the model.

Chinese OEM parts are available but I could never establish if they were compatible with our cars. They are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper and might be worth a test on one door ($30 delivered).

Hope this helps... I won't be buying VW again, they are a nightmare to repair.

Just a thought - have you considered repairing the dry solder joints on the ones you have rather than trying to source new parts? (Assuming you have intermittent door lock operation ...)

Also, found this listing on ebay.co.uk:

GENUINE VW BORA GOLF LUPO BEETLE DRIVERS FRONT DOOR LATCH LOCK 6X2837014C | eBay

Not cheap, but might be okay.

I have gone to wreckers and can get the part but my concern is more to do with the 2nd hand part experiencing the same issue at some point. I'm going to have to cut out one jammed door module - I don't want to have to do it again and be on edge for when the module might fail again.

I have heard that the MK4 was produced for China and Mexico well past when they stopped production here. Do you have the part numbers for the chinese vehicles? Worth giving it a shot if it's only $30.

I have seen a few good threads on repairing the solder joints but I'm a very average solderer and both my solders recently died lol
Also, I need to replace at least one of the door lock modules as the passenger one has jammed shut.

Thanks for that. I haven't considered earlier revisions as a legitimate option. I suppose they were sold for some time and would probably do the job for a good couple of years, if not the lifeitme of the car. Hopefully they're compatible.

Thanks for those but I've learnt how to take apart the door a good few times now. Helpful vid for anyone who wants to know to dissemble the door internals.
