    No offence to your mechanic as he is probably great, but you really need the scanner and some knowledge of these cars.
    I never have warning lights for anything maf or o2 sensor related, that's where the scanner comes in

    Not sure if my first reply to you Dylan8 was posted so I'll send again,

    Can you please suggest the most ideal scanner for my car, I prefer a handheld device you can also chuck in some laptop based software names. Please note I use a windows computer.

    im not familiar with the scanners and what does what sorry. I've always had mechanics and friends use their own

    skatz, what they are suggesting is either using a VAGCOM cable attached to a laptop, which can be done by someone with one OR taking your car to a VW service centre and have them put it on their diagnostic equipment. These are the best ways to discover the fault codes or other possible causes of your issues.
