yeh if not a charger do a few nice little tricksLike forged rods and the like
and if you are going to tear down the engine dont do a charger... go for a C2 Turbo Charger
Much more power.

Just saw this thread, and i feel for you.
BUT.....I don't mean to intrude but there is something i thought i should off my chest.
"r32 uberwagen" you are kidding, right?
I mean, you want to commence a complicated build with internal engine mods, turbos etc. and you didn't know what that piece of engine component was?
Just get it back to standard form, and just enjoy the car like VW intended.
You are definitely out of your league (i'd have to assume), and unless you are knowledgeable and specific, performance shops are gonna take you on a ride, especially financially. I don't think you realise what you are in for with this kind of engine build.
I realise that some members including yourself may disagree but in the long run you'll be better off just fixing it and keeping it stock.
Definitely go ahead with it if you are keen to spend $20k+ realistically, and are prepared for the many headaches this kind of build attracts.

i wouldnt say im kidding, id say i broke my one thing in life i really take pride in - i work really hard for my car - and when something happens like this, so unexpected, that when you do find engine internals that you just hope it isnt what you think it is, so i turned here just to make sure.
as for looking at forced induction, my finances just dont stretch far enough to justify ANY sort of modification, but hey, just talking bout it makes me feel just a touch better, that the r isnt going to the scrap heap and will be back better than ever.
but thanks for your input.
oh, forged rods does sound like a good idea!maybe a snorkel too, and ill change the plates to 'scubawagen'!

To be honest - its your car r32_uberwagen, I reckon you can do whatever you want to do to it, whether you twirl the spanners yourself or pay someone else to do it. No-one can tell you what you can or can't do with your car as long as it's legal, ignore the haters and go the direction you want/can afford with it.
In the end, you're the one who's bum sits on the seat with the steering wheel in front of it, and its your call.
Nothing to see here...
Insurance claim.
Hopefully a new long block from VW.
Done.
