    Headlight problems

    Hi everyone

    My daughters car again!

    Both headlights are not working.
Parking lights ok, High Beam ok, dash lights ok, tail lights ok.

This morning checked the fuses (2) ok, but then checked every fuse. All ok
I am assuming the globes are ok, the chances of both going at the same time is practically nil.

Can anyone tell me if there are relays for headlights? and if so where would they be hiding?
Failing that, is there anything else it could be.... Headlight switch (unlikely?).

By the way a couple of days ago I did fix one of the electric windows, this is working ok still but could I have upset something else?

Thanks for any comments She's off to work tonight

If they are HID then it could be the starters. Try turning them on and off a few times. Hope this helps and good luck.

Pansy - Thanks for the reply
No I'm pretty sure they are just standard headlights.
    Thanks anyway

both my headlights went at the same time. It was the low beam part of the H4 globe.
Being a golf u have seperate high and lows, so maybe check on of the globes. Easiest to check is the drivers side one as you dont have to deal with the battery being in the way

    Thanks dylan8.
Thanks for your suggestion. I will check this, this afternoon.
It got me thinking that since I don't drive the car myself I'm not sure that maybe we had a light out already.

And as you've said, you have had 2 go at the same time.

    Thanks!

Is the engine running when you test ?
The headlights only turn on when the key is in the full ON position.

    Thanks Justcruisn

Yes I definitely have the engine running as I didn't want to flatten (spelling?) the battery.
I will check (when I get home) whether I'm getting power to the globes just to determine which way to go from there.

Thanks for your suggestion, I really appreciate all the help

Okay follow up on the headlight problem.
Auto electrician found the headlight switch was faulty.
He replaced it $250 and all okay!

Interesting point (well I think so) is that the switch comes out so easy. I would never have guessed.

With the headlight switch in the 'off' position, push the switch into the dash and turn clockwise (which will release barbs) while pulling the whole mechanism out. Cool!

$250 I hope that was not the cost of the switch alone. I reckon that could be had for under $100 new or $50 used.

I'm embarrassed to say $250 was just for the part.
Sounded ok at the time but now come to think of it, pretty stupid to pay that much for a switch.
