I dont think there are any gearbox issues but the clutch is def gone. Get it replaced ASAP so you dont cause more damage to the flywheel
Hi
Newbie here, and I'm hoping somebody can give me a bit of advice. I have a mk4 2002 GTI and I think my clutch is going. I've read the posts suggesting loading the engine, whilst going up hill in 5th gear, and I've tried this and it does cause the clutch to slip. It only slips as you hit 2000 rpm (as the turbo kicks in?) and then gains traction again at about 3000 and will continue to accelerate.
As the clutch is going can this cause gearbox problems? First gear is getting hard to engage and putting the car in reverse is almost impossible without getting a huge crunch as you put it in gear. I'm just trying to work out if a new clutch is all I need or if it sounds like the gearbox might need attention too?
If anyone can recommend a clutch and gearbox specialist in Inner West of Sydney that would be great.
Thanks

It'll most likely already need a flywheel. Not worth only fitting a plate.
Also check the release arm when the box is off, as they can split with age. $40 from VW if you need one.

Thanks for the responses. I better get it fixed pronto
ECS have a deal for 300ish for clutch and light weight flywheel.
