Hi guys,
After recently sorting out my issues with the GTI (I bought a new throttle body and got it fitted at VolksPower) the car is back on the road, but is backfiring quite regularly.
When I first bought her about a month ago it might backfire out the exhaust maybe once every half hour, always when changing gear while accelerating firmly.
But now its doing it (to varying levels of loudness) at least once a minute and sometimes when only accelerating very, very mildly (suburban side-streets, 30-40 kph)
I'm running on BP 98 RON fuel.
Is this normal?
I don't think any backfiring is good is it? Although the odd flame is quiet cool :p

Mine pops & cracks out the back after heavy acceleration quite nicely! I like it

Check for exhaust leaks mate( too much o2 in the exhaust) and have a scan , might be fuel pressure or even the coolant temp sensor, this would lengthen the pulse of the injectors and dump too much fuel.

My A3 used to pop great on lazy changes into 3rd. It was OK most of the time. I never worried about it.
Sounds like yours is happening a bit more often, so could do with looking at.
An exhaust leak would be my starting point. Hold a rag over the tailpipe and get someone to listen under the car.
