Yeah, i have fallen in love with the gti's, went a drove one on the weekend and it went fairly well, orginally wanted a vr6 but the age of them now and the km's is off putting...

the insurance for a 2.0L mk4 isnt that much cheaper than a gti for me so i might aswell have some fun while i can

Another option is the V6 4Motion Bora - 150kW stock, AWD, lovely engine, not as moddable (without serious financial outlay) as the GTI, but a lovely car...

Not that I'm biased or anything...

unfortunatly i can only agree, soon as anyone mentions somthing about chipping it turns into a feeding frenzy. bottom line it doesnt really achieve anything (thats a given) when i first got on this forum nothing any of the premoters said helped to tip my decision in there favour. the best i guess anyone can do here is listen and take in info from each and make your own decision, ignore propaganda. infact id even recomend iming each of the premoters so you can get a even pitch from them. each of them are passionate about what product they sell which is good for our account, but throwing each into the same room just throws order into chaos.

I was looking at bora (v5's and 4 motions) and the thing which turned me off them is they have timing chains and need the engine out to be changed.

hmm i think the GTI is the way to go

Timing chains generally don't go so I wouldn't even worry about that.

I was just going to say I'd rather have a timing chain than a timing belt... although I'm told that these days belts are better than they used to be.

Its interesting that no-one has tried more than one kind of chip. They all do very similar things at differing prices. I`d like to see a shootout with 5 identical G0LF 5s at a racetrack with different chips and the STIG, but I`m sure not all the Tuners would agree.

I personally would choose the one with the most informed installer that was geographically convenient for me in case of any issues.

I have had Custom Code on my T4 TDI for a couple of years now and I`m happy, it flies and I have noticed no reliability issues. I have tried no other product, so will not comment on them.

A bit unfair that JMac should be called upon to delete his post as he is affiliated with a chip tuner, whilst WhiteVR6 presents a poll as fact, despite being very closely linked with a well known chip tuner in Sydney.

Dont believe everything you read on the internet kids, ring around, speak to some real people, see who you trust.

I'll quote loon cause it has the most info which I willbase my reply on :

I dont see many slanging matches here in regards to chips , I would like to ask a moderator/admin an its definition ? If someone asked for a boost curve graph of every chip for the 1.8t would that be the start of a slanging match , or a discussion of boost cycles of relevant chips available ? To me its only a slanging match when it turns personal .

Ive had multiple chipped cars come through my workshop . I can sit here and tell you about my experience with all of them , but , Im sure it would be called slagging and biased information .

Why would you base a test around a race track ? You would not be testing the cars peak power/torque but more so the complete area under the curve . Also a chip can be tailor made for each track and its conditions ( we had multiple ecu's for the race cars given the track conditions) . Personally I think the respective tuners should have dyno / drag shootouts . Not every tuner sells brakes/suspension so its unfair to compete in time trials on circuits . Tuners work on power and torque and try and get the most out of it from the hardware fitted .

Geographical location use to be what most people were told , but honestly its more upon what tuning suits your needs thats more important . No point getting a flash if you want a big turbo kit down the road which that relevant tuner does not have the files for !

You have Custom code so thats where your loyalty lay , now myself I have : Oettinger chip in the Seat , Giac Chip in the VR6 , Unitronic in the S3 , Stand Alone in the other VR6 and probably 034 in the UR S4 . So where do I stand ???? Well , as mentioned earlier , each company has its set target audience and almost all tuners overlap each other in this respect , so at the end of the day you need to find what chip suits your needs and budget .

I dunno what Jmac posted but I think there should be a lot less bias in this forum . Like why was 1 chip company withheld from sponsering the forum ?
Also should a Chip company have the right to be a moderator ?

Also what is wrong with the Poll from the US ? Its fact , you can sign up to vortex and vote if you want . This is just a depiction of whats happening in the market in the US right now and Im sure the trends will follow here in time .

And your right , dont beleive everything on thenet . Talk to people , attend the events and then make a real decision based on what you see and experience and not just what you read !

The thought of a poll here would be great for us potentials in the market, but I dont think it would do much justice, considering the fact there is alot of bias here... since a chip company (not to be named - has a majority vote here, due to its "sponsorship")

One other question, this being a forum - a tool thats used to freely express an experience and/or thought, why isnt there an equal balance in both negative and positive feedback on certain brands/products?

A poll allows a single vote per user. That includes sponsors.

Yeah, but what would the ratio be between customer/potention and sponsor... 15 to 1, how many chip sponsors/distributors would be out there?
