V6 Bora Temp Problems - Ideas Please
Hi Folks,
I've now owned my V6 4Motion Bora for nearly two months. So far the only mods are a new head unit, amp, speakers and subwoofer, others will come in due course.
So far, the power steering pump gave up about three weeks ago which parted me from a decent sum and then on Wednesday...............
Crawling down the M4 in Sydney at 3:30pm, 6km covered in half an hour, all of a sudden LIGHTS BEEPS WARNINGS and then... steam.
Pulled over, boiled over. I won't bore you with the stupidity of the NRMA, but anyway got the car home (towed). Filled it up with water, started fine, back to temp fine. Took it to a local mechanic the next morning (because I didn't want to drive it far and I had to get to work rather than diagnose it myself) they had it two days couldn't find any problem.
This morning stuck in traffic again, temp starts climbing, traffic starts moving, temp drops. Get it home leave it running, make sure air con is blasting on full (to try and provide some load) and apply revs, slowly get temp to rise above 90 again, keep swapping between looking at temp and checking engine bay. Lo and behold, second fan (passenger side) doesn't come on at all. Driver side fan doing the hard yards like a boss. Not a single movement from the other fan. Turn car off once it gets higher than I'm comfortable with (110), the driver side fan continues to run for probably about 10 minutes whilst its pathetic slacker brother does nothing.
Diesel mechanic friend of mine who has his hands too full to help at the moment lays his bets on relay, fan, sensor in that order.
After searching the forums I'll give Euro Automotive at Girraween (not too far from me at Blacktown) a call on Monday and try to get it booked in. But in the meantime...............any ideas or suggestions?
Cheers
Craig
