I'm not a big fan of the Reiger kit that is one it, i assume that was an aftermarket modification? Can someone please explain the difference between this VR6 and an R32 (apart from the engine).

Currently i drive my fathers Holden Calibra, some of you may know it, they sold about 3 of them in Australia and as such parts are hard to get and Holden charges you a fortune to service them because they have no idea what they are. I'm just wondering if I would have this same problem with this VR6 as its the only one in Australia. But then again, all the parts that are in this car were sold on other VW's in Australia. Also, i don't understand why someone hasn't snatched this up already. Thanks 83_SUS for the info on this car, and i think i would definitely swap the woodgrain.

Unless you starting breaking parts, I don't see why the V6 4motion will be any more/less expensive to maintain/service/repair than a R32. In any case if you start breaking parts, it's going to cost your left nut and them some to fix due to being euro

The only main differences are the body and interior styling. Obviously as previously stated it has the 2.8L 6 instead of the 3.2L Dare say the drivetrain/gearbox etc is exactly the same..

Some one more educated in the VW world will probably clarify though.

Yeah i thought the body, interior and engine would be the only differences - should make it easier to turn into an R32. Jokkinnggg.

Well i've got first hand experience in paying for a euro service, so that wont be too much of a shock. However, if something were to break, parts shouldn't be too scarce since all these components were sold in Australia. Tossing up between this and a Jaguar X-type.

R32 seats seem to go for about $1800 a set. They're nice, much more supportive than the standard Bora V6 4Motion ones, and have a slit in them to mount a harness should you get into track work at any stage. The price is a killer though.

Regarding other R32 upgrades - I've got the R32 brakes on my car, they're heavy, but they stop fantastically well. I've got an R32 steering wheel and gearshift (wheel is fitted, gearshift is waiting for a replacement gearshift surround console). I've also got R-line pedals that I need to get fitted, R-Line door sills that will get fitted once I fix my drivers door hinge, and R32 floormats coming from fuzion. I'm likely to replace the woodgrain with brushed aluminium to match the gearshift (and my woodgrain is cracked and creaks, and so needs replacing anyway).

I also have a Euro-spec DSG R32 air intake, though that's very subtle.

Non-R32 specific upgrades that I have are blue Haldex controller, Bilstein PSS9 coilovers and a UNIbrace, as well as having done the ECS Stage 2 front suspension refresh kit. I may get it tuned (Unitronic or CC most likely) at some point, but I'm VERY happy with the car regardless.

100,000km is nothing for one of these cars as long as it has been well maintained.

Servicing doesn't have to be too expensive. As long as you plan ahead, you can get most of the parts from overseas (ECS, etc) - a lot of parts for the R32 are identical to those on the Bora, and the 24v V6 engine the US Mk4 Jetta got is the same as the one we got in the V6 4Motion here, and most things just fit. And don't stick to dealer servicing, look at some of the independent VAG specialist (Jmac in Brissie for example), they do just as good a job, if not better (since you get more personalised service), than the dealerships, and don't charge nearly as much for their work.
    Nothing to see here...

That pretty much sums up what i want to do to this car, although people on here disagree with that with this car. I dunno, i really want an R32, but i guess this is the next best thing. Will have to see what happens. Thanks for all the info guys, appreciate it.

How much do you guys think insurance for this would be? Do you think it would cost as much as an R32? Also the R32 has a performance car excess on it.

Or would i be better off just asking the seller how much his insurance is?

R32 was only sold here new in 2004 although it was available elsewhere in previous years. This car is 2001 & has been for sale for ages as mentioned before, like a couple of years I think! I believe it was imported from NZ - have a search through the Mk 4 section, it's been discussed plenty of times so you should be able to find some more info on it.

On that basis, they may not even recognise it since it wasn't an AU model.
