    Golf mk4 1.6

After the engine swap the car seemed to be going alright, but over the last couple of weeks a few problems have occurred.
    1. Strut tower top caps in the engine bay have gaps between the cap and the seat that the top of the strut/spring sit in, as soon as there's a bump everyone around me can tell by hearing the suspension rattle but I just can't get it any tighter.
    2. Recently my tappits have started making a ticking noise but the noise goes away sometimes.
3.a loud rattle is coming from around the timing belt, at first I thought it was the water pump pulley but then now it seems a lot more like it's coming mainly from the tensioner pulley.
I have a feeling my timing is out and has caused the tappits and belt area noises.

Going to take my car in hopefully sometime next week to get looked at but would rather do any repairs that don't really require a mechanic to do myself.
Sounds to me as if I'm in need of a new timing belt and tensioner pulley, timing needs to be adjusted and need to find some sort of socket Alan key tool for the tops of my strut towers?

And my steerings off a bit and has a shuddering coming from the front wheels, tried wiggling the tie rod ends but no movement, brakes could probably do with replacing but it doesn't seem like warped disks, tried wiggling the drive shafts and there's a bit of movement. Could that mean damaged or worn shafts or is there supposed to be a little bit of play? They seem to make a whizzing noise every now and then. Also the engine is a bit sluggish, I've used some fuel system cleaner and injector cleaner which got me thinking could it be not enough oil pressure along with the fuel/air? I put some stop smoke in yesterday(all I could find in my area without driving and damaging the car further) to try thicken the oil a little bit and see if that helps but no change
    no luck with this car

thickening the oil wont help the problem if any thing it could make it worse , by thickening the oil the oil pump has to work harder to supply a proper flow of oil around the motor

if the wheels shudder under braking only, then it's new discs and pads time, regardless of how flat they seem.

make sure your oil and filter are changed in regards to the tappet noise.

How many k's on the engine, and when was the last service of any type?

It's not necessarily when I'm braking more slowing down but there on the list of things to do ASAP, was thinking of giving it another oil change soon. It had 52,000 when when I picked it up and I have no record but apparently just before the engine came out of his car it had a full service with new spark plugs and a newish flywheel. Apart from that I've been driving it the last month or so trying to pick up on anything that needs doing

that all seems pretty good then, could be wheel balance.

Is there a way of tightening the tensioner pulley? Just got a new belt and pulley with the bearings but the spring tensioner the pulley sits on is loose
