Golf GTI upgrade tips
hey guys i own a Golf GTI 2000 model, i took my car to a vw performance mechanic recommended by some vw drivers to get some work done to the engine to get more power out of it, he quoted me a reasonable price for a computer upgrage a boost controller solenoid, and a down pipe and it was only going to get me 150kw at the engine.
he also said i need to upgrade my clutch, flywheel and the diff to prevent my gearbox from blowing, which doubled my budget and a bit, it didn't sound too real to me so i thought i would get some tips, i mean its only a small first upgrade, because i been planning to work on my car for a while and he just turned me off it! ![Emo Rifle](https://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/smilies/emo_rifle.gif)
what is there to be done??
thanks

The std clutch in good condition treated with respect will handle chipped power(200hp at the crank).
It won't last as long as it would with std power obviously.
You should definitely be prepared to replace it down the line though. My recommendation would be to go to a VR6 clutch cover and disc with a solid flywheel from an ABF 16V or other 4 cyl cable box engine.
With the box, the diff pins are known to fail but it's not an everyday failure. The std box is able to handle double the std power if not abused.
Find out more about the boost solenoid, if he is talking about the N75 valve, I don't think you need to replace that. The downpipe is a good move though.
You won't get more than he is quoting you without a turbo change.
