Hey all ive got a problem with my central locking. ive discovered the fuse keeps blowing (instantly) and i cant open the fuel door to fill up. i can unlock and lock the driver and passenger door manually but the rear doors cant open at all.
any idea on what could be causing the fuse to blow? im 99% something is shorting.

i need help asap cos i need to fill up fuel! im running almost on empty.

    any help much appreciated.

Read your owners manual, I think you'll find there is a manual release inside the boot behind the trim.

    Golf gremlins strike again!!

It's most likely a faulty door lock solenoid/window regulator/power mirror or, as was the case in my car, the whole loom for the door being faulty.

    Hey guys!

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I have a similar problem with my Golf. Since having an aftermarket stereo installed, the keyfob refuses to lock/unlock the doors. Using the key in the driver's door lock still works fine, although the LED near the driver's door pin no longer flashes. The installer says he never unhooked the battery at any stage. I've checked all the fuses and they are fine. Could this be a faulty window regulator? If so, how much do these cost to have replaced by the dealership?

PS. the warning tone that sounds when the parkers are on and the door is open stopped working at the same time. I guess it has to be related somehow?

    Any help much appreciated!

Colvs, I'm guessing you had the stereo installed somewhere?

Did you get speakers installed at the same time? If so, pull off your door card and have a look at the wiring to see if anything has been spliced into the loom, this may have caused your problem...

    Gavs,

Thanks for the reply! Had the headunit installed at Autobarn. I just left the OEM speakers in so the installer wouldn't have taken the door cards off at all. Is it possible for the keyfob to just lose its sync with the control unit? I've had this same problem with my work car (Yaris) and all it needed was for the fob to be reprogrammed by Toyota. Wish I had a spare keyfob so I could reprogram them and see if that's all it is!

    Cheers,

The fuse blowing instantly is definitely a short in the system somewhere. You'll probably need to get VAGCOM onto it to check for error codes, that would have to be the easiest way to pinpoint where the problem is. As Gavin said there should be a manual fuel cap release in the boot (thin wire like cable with a small plastic handle on it)

Further to this issue, I decided to remove the Alpine stereo and put the OEM one back in. Lo and behold, the remote keyless works again. Apparently aftermarket stereos can fool the car into thinking the ignition is always on, which leads to the remote not working and the warning tone for the lights being on also not working. This doesn't resolve the issue though as when I put the Alpine back in I'm right back to square one!!

Any ideas what I should do?

I'm not 100 % sure on this one mate, but it sounds as though the installation of the Alpine deck has certainly thrown a spanner in the works. If these problems weren't there prior to the Alpine stereo install then I would say that is definitely what has caused it and I would think it will need VAGCOM on it to determine where the problem is, as it probably needs something to be reset. This may be able to be done to accommodate the Alpine unit, but a lot of these later model VW's don't take kindly to having non OEM parts fitted and will quite often have compatibility issues. Even if you put the original head unit back in I would guess you will still need some sort of reset to put things back the way they were. Best of luck with it

Thanks for the quick reply Russ! Funnily enough, as soon as I put the OEM head unit back in, the remote works again without any need to reset anything. It also works fine with no stereo connected at all. Then, when the Alpine deck gets connected and powered up, the remote stops working. Strange indeed. I'll keep researching and see if I can't find a solution!
