Golf 4 Hatch Strut Sheared Off!

    Hi Fellow Watercoolers,

I opened my Golf 4 hatch yesterday and found the right hand side gas strut flopping around. The bolt that holds the strut mount on the rear car body had pulled out of the bodywork stripping the thread tapped into the body.

Has anyone had anything like this happen to them and any suggested fixes?

    Thanking you in advance.

get a helicoil person to attend to it, otherwise get your drill/welder out and make a new mount

Thanks for the advice. Pardon my ignorance, what is a "helicoil person"? Do you mean that i should contact a gas strut repair place?

    Many Thanks :smile

Helicoiling is a process whereby a new thread is inserted into an existing hole so that you can screw something into it again. Often done where the thread has been damaged beyond fixing with a tap (from a tap & die set)
