Hi all,

I have recently joined and I'm hoping that someone can help me out with an issue I'm having with the gearshift bushes on my MK4 1.6 manual Golf. The build date is 11/1998 but I believe the setup is a carryover from the MK3.

The problem area has a large metal weight with nylon bushes on each end. The bushes have disappeared completely. I have been to the local VW dealer but it seems that the bushes can't be purchased separately and I've been quoted $350 to replace the 2 mechanisms involved.

Reading through some of the past posts it seems to be the same issue that craig_the_german had some time ago.

I also noticed that Pullstarter had some bushing sets for sale that fixed the problem. Is it possible for Pullstarter or someone else that had the same problem to help out?

The car goes through gears fine, but I'm worried if I don't replace the bushes it will cause premature wear in the rest of the linkage which appears to be in good condition.
