    Gearshift linkage bushes

    Hi all,

I have a Mk4 1.6 manual (the 020 gearbox) and I have noticed that one of the gearshift linkage bushes has popped out. The linkage has a linking rod with a large weight on it and this rod has a plastic??? bush at each end. One of these keeps popping out as the bottom lip of the bush seems to be missing.

    1. I assume that these little plastic bushes are reasonably easy to come by....are they part of a linkage bush kit or can you buy them separately.

    2. How much of the linkage am I going to have to dismantle to replace these bushes?

    Thanks

it's sounds to me you own an ealry mk4 golf. Which mean you have the MK3 gearlinkage shifting mechanism.

Yes you can buy those parts by themselfs but VW and that usually only sells as a kit. Take a picture and post it up.

    gearshift linkages

    Hi, thanks for that.

Any idea other than VW who might sell these bushes. I have spoke to VW parts this morning and they only want to sell me the entire arm. Surely these little bushes are replacable. I'll post up a diagram tonight when I get home.

    gearbox linkage bushes

Hi, I had the guys at Highway VW send me the page out of the spare parts book for me to identify the bushes.

I have highlighted the bushes that I need. I don't know what the part numbers are for the bush set, sorry. You might be able to help me identify it from the diagram.

    Thanks.

yeah that is the mk3 linkage system. Those particular parts i do not know where to get. But hopefully the guys on here have the correct bushes you are after. Otherwise i guess google maybe your friend.

Otherwise maybe a vw wrecking yard?

    gearbox linkage bushes

    Hi all,

I replaced the bushes I needed to this morning, no problems...actually was a little easier than I had anticipated.

Many thanks to Simon (pullstarter) for the bush kit.
