Easiest way is to cut the brass clip. And if you need to reuse the knob instead of the brass clip a good cable tie will work the same. There's also no thread on the shaft.
I tried getting off the gear knob earlier and it wouldn't come off.
On closer inspection underneath there is a brass coloured metal ring holding some plastic bit.
Is there a way to get it off and maybe back on if needed?
And also is there a thread in the metal itself?
Im trying to put my dildo shifter on my car.
Thanks

You shouldn't need to bust the brass clip to get the gear knob off. Take your time and you'll be able to re-use the parts.
... and nobody commented on the whole dildo shifter thing? ok, cool.

Ive had this shifter for 2 years and its been on various cars I've owned. From Mazda's, Nissan's, A Datsun, Mk1 Golf. Now it needs to go on the GTI. Also I find the stock shifter too low
