    Geeeeeeeez!
I'll be shifting just a little bit more carefully now.
I hope for all our sakes that the heavy clutch buggered things up and it's not some sort of design flaw.

Thanks everyone for the help. Just to give you guys an update if you're interested.

Barloworld Mascot will replace the gear box with a second hand one and new JV joint for $4414, but I can take it to Parra for ~$4142 (including towing to Parramatta). The guy I spoke to at Parra said that he's seen this issue before and has modified the gear box / drive shaft (?) to have bolts and not rivets as this is apparently a lot more secure.

There's also a chance I can get a new gear box for ~2500 to 3000 (thanks DUB 20V) but not sure if that's worth it?

Let it go Loon , you cant win em all

I would have changed flywheel as well

A brand new box isnt as good as a properly built one . The rivets are a problem and Ive just recently seen that even high tensile bolts can break as well . Its a learning curve albeit an expensive one . Every car I build with 400hp + Im gonna do with at least an 02m conversion as they are a strong box . 02j's are just too weak

How are they breaking? High tensile bolts tend to be brittle and shear easy. Just curious

Go teh O2M !!! AS you say Bug, these boxes are in a lot of HP cars and they don't tend to break.

Pity about the 02j's though. Man 4G!!! Rent a car and replace the box yourself or source yourself a new box and have the mod's done.

Its not about winning, I`m just trying to help the guy.

I reckon unscrupulous garages would change the box and charge him hard. I think the box should be at least inspected and maybe just change the driveshaft first and see if thats all it is. $300 bil instead of thousands.

Second opinion I think they call it. I`d get one if it was my car.

I`d change the flywheel too if the box came off.
