I have a Rally also, but nobody seems to know exactly what the different specs are. The only things i know of for ceratian are:
- Fake woodgrain trim instead of boring black
- Heated mirrors
- Rally rear door badges
- 14" Alloy wheels instead of the standard "steelies"
Other things I have been told of, but have never been confirmed include:
- The rally was a "runout" model to get rid of the remaining 1.6ltr engines to make way for the 2ltr, so they fitted "sports" suspension to it.
- They fitted the GTi suspension to the standard 1.6 and stuck "Rally" badges on the side
- The Rally got the GTi suspension and a free-er flowing exhaust, hence why we have a round rear muffler, not the funny looking-space-filling one
- It was a "dealer special", meaning it was sold only through specific dealers who optioned what they wanted on it, then stuck the Rally badges on the side
- The "Rally" edition was only offered in Australia, it was built to comemorate the VW Golf win in the Front Wheel Drive class of the Australian Rally Championship, so the stuck extra stuff in it, like heated mirrors, fake wood, ABS and dual front airbags as standard, CD player etc. Ironic, they added extra stuff into a car thus making it heavier, when it's meant to celebrate a lightweight rally car....
