    Fuel for 2002 GTi recommendation

Hi all, will be picking up my 2002 GTi next week and love to hear what people's experience in using particular brands of fuel?

    Tks,

Any 98 will be fine, it'll run on 95 if you have to. Put in enough to get you to a servo with 98. You'll notice a reduction in performance but not massive.

i always use BP 98, but one day i got a Shell/Coles petrol docket. I put Shell Vortex 98 in and my petrol gauge stopped working.
After a few days I put BP 98 in and it worked again. A few GTI and other jap turbo people i know have had the same thing. The cr gets used to one brand and wants to stay with it.
It may sound crazy but after seeing it in person I believe it.

Thanks to all that replied. I picked up the car last week and have not yet filled it up. I will give BP98 a go as there seems to be a following. Sorry for the late reply, I must not have emails turned on for reply to posts.

    Thanks again.

    I use United 100RON
same price as other high RON fuels in my area
I did notice when I was towing car back from South Australia that I got less K's per tank when I had to use 95RON and the car was noticeably slower to respond.

If you want good economy and power 98 seems to be the sweet spot. 95 gives marginally more power than 91 but price/km travelled is pretty ordinary.
100 with ethanol gives a bit more power than 98 but km/litre suffers.

Here are some real numbers from my Mazda 121, now its no GTI but you can see the differences in economy.
I did some testing with 3 tanks of each running the same route to work and back.
All Caltex products from the same servo.
    91 7.8l/100km
    95 7.4l/100km
    98 6.2l/100km

Shell V-power 98 in my current turbo engine. Seems to give the best fuel economy & I have a financial interest in Coles. Any of the others are almost as good as well.

When I had a MKIV, I used to run it on United 98ron. I liked the thought that the 10% ethanol made it run cooler & cleaned everything.
