Could be like the hazard lights on the bora which kept going off. Turned out to be the stalk. Try spraying some contact cleaner on the stalk contacts. Cant hurt....unless you do it wrong.

It should be on the relay carrier under the steering wheel.
where'd you get that part number from?
i searched and found it on ECS who say "Fits vehicles without rain sensor wipers only."

Another site shows it with 603 written on the top.
Have a look under the dash and pull out the relay, you'll get a part number quick smart.

They are like $20 from the states, probably quicker than the 3 days from Singapore too.
ECS have it but at almost $60 they can go jump.

yeah thanks, that's the logical way to do it.
just got to work out where it is... somewhere behind the fuse box...
might even go to a wreckers and get one for like $5, quicker and cheaper!
my wipers have now crept up the windscreen a little, not sure why. maybe just the wind or something...

Either that or your car is possessed! I'd be looking at an exorcism if the relay doesn't fix it

    nah it's seriously possessed!
I removed the fuse for both the fronts and rears, and yet occasionally, the wipers will go up about 20-30 degrees. It's not wind, it definetly moves up like it's being driven by the motor. Would have thought the fuse would have stopped power going to them...
only logical thing i can think of is that it is a safetly mechanism that when your fuse has blown, your wipers move halfway up the windscreen to give you the unsubtle reminder that they are not working!

still yet to get under the dash and find the part number i need

i finally looked under the dash (hate removing the trim, always break clips...)
that's the wrong one i think, i need the 377 not the 603, the part number is 4B0955531A (so an A on the end not an E)
will try source one tomorrow... the E type was about $80 from VW, the A type may be cheaper who knows. hopefully vw let me test it out before i buy it (they let me do this with a MAF before )

though not sure, maybe they would both work...

strange thing is, if you look at the part number here:
    http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-...ch/377_Relay/2
the type A seems to be for ones with rain sensing wipers, and the type E appears to be for ones without rain sensing wipers.
the gti doesn't have rain sensing wipers so not sure why it has the A type...
