Front Lower Control Arms for Bora 4motion 2003
did i just get sharked??? or does this sound right?
New pair of Front Lower Control Arms supplied ($264) and fitted ($287.50) by a work shop today in Brookvale NSW.
Charged 2.5Hrs
The owner told me a long bolt needed to be removed so the engine mounts need to be removed to raise the engine enough for clearance.
Half way through the job I asked them to swap front to rear for the wheels/tyres charged at $22 (front wheels were already off!!!!)
Any thoughts appreciated if this seemed fair or not i'm just having trouble trusting people at the moment as a clutch centre told me I needed a new clutch so I bled the system and the clutch is completely fine and when they bled the brakes with a vacuum/pressure bleeder I had to do it manually at home and saw 3 large sections of air coming out from RR brake now got a hard pedal back......

I can't really comment on other workshops, but I find it easier to drop the subframe to get the bolt out. Basically, it's the front bolt for the LCA on the left side. The gearbox is in the way, preventing the bolt from coming all the way out. Four bolts hold the subframe in, it just needs to be dropped enough for the other bolt to clear the gearbox. I did my Beetle that way, on the driveway. Pretty sure it didn't take 2.5hrs.
To do it the other way, I'm pretty certain they'd need to take the battery, airbox, and all that out.

I did my own front control arms by lowering the sub frame also.
i know how you feel about mechanics.
Why i try do most of the stuff myself.
