Nice buy buddy!! This was Pete's old one back in the day, which reflects the mods that came with the car. Good to see that it's at a good home.

    Foff's R32

Well it's been a while guys but I'm back from an epic road trip in the R32.

I guess it all started on Boxing Day when I jumped into the car and noticed the car was missing and had nowhere near the amount of power it used to. Being a public holiday meant that everywhere was closed and as I didn't have a spare coilpack on me (wont do that again) I had to figure out what to do. I rang a few people with no luck and left a couple of messages and hoped for the best. Worst case I'd have to wait until the morning to hit the dealer and buy a new coil pack but then I would only be leaving canberra at 10am.

At around 4pm my mate Darren who works at CVWC called me back and said he could meet me at the shop and swap the coilpack. After inspecting all the coilpacks we found 2 that looked fairly old and 4 relatively new ones. Hooked the car up to VAG-COM and yep, a cylinder was missing. Turns out it was one of the new ones funnily enough. Anyway we swapped it over, cleared the codes and started the car and it ran as good as before!

The plan was to drive to Adelaide in one trip. It's around 1200kms so we planned to leave at 5am. Alarm went off at 4:30 so I jumped in the shower, finished packing the car and woke up my mate Linc to leave. We stopped at the servo at Gold Creek to fill up and get a quick coffee and we were on the road by 5:15. We drove all the way to Hay, before stopping to fill up and grab a quick bite to eat. MFD reckons I was sitting on around 8.5L/100kms which seems good to me. Couldn't quite work out why 98 was 179c in canberra and 164c in Hay though.

The drive was pretty good up until Hay where the roads got really bumpy. The V3's definitely got a workout thats for sure. Other than that it was pretty smooth sailing. The car went amazing and didnt miss a beat the whole way! We ended up getting to Adelaide at 5:30pm so even though you gain a half hour we still made awesome time. I think the total time that we were stopped would have been less than 15 minutes.

In Adelaide we caught up with the S|W guys from Melbourne and Adelaide. The weekend consisted of drinking, driving (not at the same time) and ridiculous car meets, as well as ridiculous cars. We went to Jaf's cruise which was held at a shopping mall carpark. I've never seen so many amazing cars in the same place. Also while we were there we met the owners of 2 replica GT40's with some interesting stories behind them. There will be a S|W article coming out in the near future with some amazing photos.

    Here's a teaser

So Adelaide finished off with a bang and we headed to Melbourne. Had a few more drinks with the likes of Golfman (Cheers for putting us up as always) Jarred, Dylan, Stu and all the rest of the crew. Always good times to be had in Melbourne! One morning Josh (Golfman) and I headed to the wreckers to find some stock mk4 Tails. Ideally we were looking for some GTI smoked ones but we couldn't find any, so stock 2.0L tails it had to be. On the way home we stopped into Supercheap and grabbed a can of red nightshades.

I taped up the indicator section and sprayed one coat, and then taped up the clear reverse light section and put 3 coats over the whole thing. I'm actually suprised how well they came out. I just need to get some orange indicator bulbs because at the moment the indicators are red.

The next day we caught up with Peter Davies from Volkwerke in Melbourne and he kindly did some vag-com coding to the R32. I got rid of selective unlocking, because every time the passenger door doesnt open for my girlfriend she wants to kill me haha. I chose to have the doors lock at 20kmh, and then open again when you pull the key out. 2 pulls on the door handle also unlocks the door.

The trickier things were enabling Distance to empty and making the needles light up at all times. IF anyone wants to know how to do this I've got all the info, you just need to copy the eeprom file with vagtacho and edit the file in a program. Thanks a heap Pete for this! Love it!!

And here she is at home after a nice wash.

In other news my Ground Control Camber plates and USPmotorsports rear adjustable control arms arrived so I'll be picking them up today at some point but unfortunately I'm off to Qld for the week so they'll have to wait until then. And I also have a potential set of wheels in the works for this thing. Just waiting to hear back as to whether they'll clear the front brakes.

I didn't even know you could get red nightshades man, I might have to give that a crack on my tail lights. Looks awesome

Thought this was a road trip extravaganza for a minute, and was about to close off, until I got to the photos of your MKIV R32. I can't say I'm a massive fan of the red shades on the taillight because it remind me too much of a GL MKIV. I bet you are wrapped after the road trip with your new purchase Josh.

A friend of mine who's a VW wrecker has a MKIV R32 at the moment with rear OEM MKIV R32 taillights in good condition. Shoot me a message if your interested.

    Looking great Josh!

Thanks for the offer Robbie but I'll think I'll keep this for the time being. Couldn't have it looking like every other R32 out there anyway

So received and installed my Ground Control camber plates and my USP motorsports RCA's. Also bought a camera over the holiday's so hopefully the photos will be a little better from now on

General consensus is that gruvenparts arms are the way to go but I'm happy with the way these things look. I put some copper based antiseize on the threads before installing to adjusting will be a breeze in the future.

Not 100% sure what I'm going to do here yet, I might grind a nut or something down to sit inside the braked or something. For now I just used an offcut of a rag. (Car hasnt been driven and wont be till I get that sorted)

These things are a cool bit of gear. Pretty stoked with how they look. Now to see whether they are as noisy as people say they are!

Till next time! Hopefully next update might have some wheels involved but who knows yet!

Coming along well Josh, what made you go for the USP Motorsports CA's over the Gruvenparts or Forge?

Was your car under the recall list for coil packs? JedR32 had a very similar issue with his MKIV R32 a few months ago. Are the Ground Control camber plates louder than stock?

Much better photos now with the new camera

    Cheers Robbie!

I won't lie, price was a big deal. I couldn't really justify $500 for 4 rear arms. Whereas the USP motor sports are usually $400 for 4. I got them on pre Christmas special for $300 though

As for the recall, I'm not too sure, how do you tell? I wouldn't think it would matter by now as the cars 10 years old haha.
