    Flush-fitting number plates

Thinking of ways to make cars looks shmick, and one idea I had was to flush-fit the F&R number plates into the respective piece of body work they'd either ordinarily go on or fit them to a good place you might think of.

My idea is to get the slimline premium plates (the black on white ones) and fit them flush to the location, and then maybe even get a number plate protector or bit of plastic to finish it off (making that flush too ofcourse).

Anyway, first question would be the legality of it. Can you legally fit them this way?

I think they must always be seen from at least a 30degree angle, is that right?

Second, assuming it is legal, has anyone actually done it?

Firstly the premium/prestige plates come in full protective frame, so you won't need a piece of perspect plastic to go over the top.

Secondly, it has be done to death by mini trucks, show cars over the years. Get your hands on some old car mags, I'm sure you find some examples of having the plates recessed into bumpers, boot lids and the like.

I think recessing the front plate and flushing the plate on teh front would look like ass. Think you would be better to attach the plate to the lower grill on the front bar like a few of the .:R boys have done. Or place the front plate on the dash, like so many people seem to do (couldn't comment on the legalities of that though).

Probably the only issue you would have with the rear is retaining some form of number plate lights.

It's not an issue of can it be done, it's an issue of how deep are your pockets As soon as the word 'custom' comes into play, get ready to drain that account.

    My 2c.

I think if done right it would look sweet. But, doing it right would mean exact measurements and good craftmanship when cutting and resessing into the front bumper...potentially quite costly as said above.

I am going to remove my number plate 'holder' (i guess you would call it?) on my .:R soon and put it on the lower grill; i KNOW this has been said before but i'm hopeless at searching, but what's my best method for removing this holder? there is of course going to be some holes left in the bumper? just putty and touchup or...?

When you remove your plate holder I think there is gona be 4-6 holes that are gona have to be filled and then the front bar resprayed. I didn't want to drill holes in my R bumper so I zip tied the euro plate holder to the lower center grill, I didn't have any problems with cooling and then I changed it up a bit and I used 3m double sided tape and put my plate on the side for awhile and moved it to the center. Also there are a few of the Euro bumpers that have a counter sunk area in the center to run a euro plate-but if your gona fab it up I say go for it and I think it would look good if it follows the contour of the what ever bumper your working with. Also check out TmTuning.com as they have heeps of Euro bumpers. Cheers J
