fluid on footrest - accelerator side????

    g'day guys,

i was detailing my gti the other day, when i noticed that the footrest (which is probably not really a footrest) near to the accelerator pedal has a fluid that has run down it.

It appears to be oil, any ideas before i pull my dash out!!!!!!

    thanks guys

Footrest is next to the clutch pedal , as the left foot is the one to be rested. Is this where you mean mate??????? Reason i ask is the clutch master cylinder is up in there and can be prone to failing.
Have a look at all of your under bonnet levels too, to see if anything is a miss 1st.

Are you referring to the plastic bit that rolls up into the side well and has a big plastic screw bump stop for the accelerator? I suppose it's kind of a footrest but not that comfortable.
Could it be coming down from the steering column maybe? Unsure exactly how it works but I imagine that there could be some kind of hydraulics that have a leak???
Removing the bits of plastic around that area as well as the plastic underneath the steering wheel isn't that hard. Just make sure you get all the screws and don't force anything too hard.
Also a good tip for looking around under there is to move the seat back as far as you can and slide yourself in upside backwards.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,

There is no fluids in there or anywhere near the steering column, only fluid anywhere near that sort of area is clutch master cylinder. I suggest looking there and make sure all the under hood fluids are good.

No worries Jimmy. Just thought that maybe that could be a possibility.
Disregard my post about the steering column.
