Flashing immobiliser light but car still starts

    Hey Guys,
I really need to pick your brains. I have a 99 mk4 golf gti, and I just upgraded the keys to the new flip style. I put new chips in and programmed the keys using vag tacho, i also deleted the old key All seemed well, until I tried to program the original key (with a new chip). Now the immobilser light flashes when i use any of the keys, The funny thing is the car starts and runs fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is really doing my head in.
    Cheers Richard.

Yep i have mate and have also had the same thing. Now all i would use is the vagtacho to read your pin, then use the pin as your login via vagcom, its the only way to get rid of it, yeah its weird it still does that, you can also just as a one off do a terminal 30 reset and disconnect the battery terminals, touch the earth and live cable together OFF THE BATTERY and refit to battery. The dash cluster is slightly corrupted there mate, i had it but managed to get rid of it. i gather you erased all the keys first then went from there ro dod you only use vagtacho?? i use the 2 together mate

    Cheers

Thanks for your reponse Jmac. I did a terminal 30 reset as you suggested, and it did restore the immobiliser operation. However it meant that my keys would no longer work. So i tried to re program the keys, but got the message that the keys could not be read. I have managed to get them to start and run the car, but the immobiliser light is now flashing again. I suppose i will have to change the transponder chips and reprogram the keys. I have ordered new chips, and will try to reprogram the keys. I will report back once I try this. Once again Jmac thank you so much for your input.
    Cheers.

I disconnected the battery, then bridged the positive battery lead and ground battery lead for a moment. This returned the immobiliser to an operative state. (immobiliser light flashing, car starts then stalls). then used vag tacho to try to reprogram keys, got the message that the key could not be read. However now even though the immobiliser light is flashing the keys will start and run the engine. Hopefully my explanation is clear enough to understand.
    Cheers

Jmac you are a legend mate. After using vag com to reprogram the keys, I am happy to report that the keys are working fine and the immobiliser light is now off. I have read many of your replies to our members cries for help, and i am convinced that you truly are the VW king. Thank you so much for all of your help. I owe you a six pack. If your ever in sydney, please make sure you collect. once again thank you so much.
