    Fitting the Front Bumper Lip

Just brought a second hand front bumper lip from the wrecker after my last one was stolen. I'm having troubles fitting it along the front section around the middle either side of the number plate... it doesn't seem to matter which side I start from either . Does anyone have any tips for attaching them?

    THanks

are you sure the valance is to suit your car (is it a golf or bora?), as they have different clip locations yet look pretty much the same...
I took my bumper off to do mine, was just so much easier then trying to work out what wasnt lining up with what

have you tried removing the bumper, it's pretty easy.

Yeah i'm sure it was from another golf (i've got a mk4 GLE 1.... i saw them take it off it at the wreckers

haha i wish it was the gutter... i saw some kids scoping my car out awhile ago outside my house... and they left in their mk4 as soon as i came out. then a few days later bam it was gone... luckily now i have space in the carport so that shouldn't be a problem again... at least at home.

If removing the whole front bumper would you then place it on a towel so you can push it into the ground to connect them or what?

    bummer!

I put cardboard/towels down just to lay the bumper on, but i used force between my too hands to push the lip and the bumper together.
I cant remember where I started sorry, a few were a pain (ithink due to damage of the old lip getting hooked on stuff) but some good old force fixed that

try removing the lower grille and the fog-light blanking plates. I used wood clamps to gently "massage" the slots together with some prayer and threatening gestures and occasional firm tap with my palm the thing started to slot together.

I lined it up in the centre, did the 1st alignment using my hands then used the woodworking clamp along the entire section until the clips engaged. I did 3 or so passes to get it sitting flush. You could try using rubber mallet, my palms had enough of this towards the end.

I left mine in the sun which made it much easier to fit about an hour later - it was Summer at the time though.

whenever i have to fit these up, i start from one end.. just to get a start in the right place.. then i move to the centre and press in.. then follow suit.. Shouldn't be too hard to get in. I've had to do a few in situation.

Tek i can't believe i didn't think of taking off the lower grill sections! Made it soo much easier... still needed a bit of force though but the leverage is so much easier. Thanks for all your help guys ... i just find the car looks better now

awhh bad news Leighaus... i guess you'd have to look at the damage to the actual bumper where it contacts as to wether it will hold a new one. Good luck and shop around the wreckers cause they can vary widely in prices
