First aid kit and warning triangle

Is it true Australian cars were not supplied with the first aid kit and warning triangle thingamy that goes in the storage partition to the left of the boot when sold new?

When looking around at second hand cars to buy recently I didn't find a single car with an intact first aid kit or warning triangle in the boot, even though there is an obvious and clear place for the items to be stored. All the owners told me "it never came with that". Sounded odd to me, but after being told the same thing about 6 times, you start to think it might be true. Reducing the new car cost perhaps in a market where the item isn't a legal requirement?

Anyway, cost being a consideration 'n all, is there a local source for these items? I would rather have the rubber straps holding something than just flapping around in the breeze. Everyone who sees it thinks exactly the same as me... it's missing something.

    Cheers

requirement in europe to pass their rego..must also have a fire extinguisher in the car.
here most euro cars have the fitments but are not supplied for "free".

never bothered me.if you really want this stuff, ebay.de will have it somewhere for sure.

Would you be kind enough to post up a couple of pictures of the kit and it secured in the car for me? I'm curious as to what it looks like and photos would help me to source the right thing for my own car. I don't even know if it comes as a wrapped up satchel or in a hard plastic hinged box. I would guess the later because that's how the BMW ones came.

    Cheers.

I don't have the OEM equipment but I keep a small fire extinguisher, first aid kit and fire blanket in the Golf's first aid cubby hole.
    It cost about $50 altogether.

I got a first aid kit but no triangle with mine too.

I guess it depends on the dealer, some will give it away and some wont

My Mk IV Bora came with both.

Considering our cars are Euro-spec, isn't it unusual that some were sold without these standard items?

Mine just sits in the bottom. There are some rubber straps, but I use them to hold a set of jumper leads...

It actually says on page 98 of my owner's manual in the section pertaining to the first aid kit and warning triangle... "The first aid kit and warning triangle are not included in the scope of delivery for the vehicle!"

Exclamation marks and bold typeface included an' all. That's pretty damn ghey if you ask me. To provide such a good and obvious storage location for it, and then not provide the actual items to be stored there is disgraceful. Like leaving holes in the front of the car and telling buyers that headlights are an optional extra.
