    just so you know, when importing a car to australia, If your importing it privately you need to prove that you have owned the car for over 1 year over in nz, to avoid paying extra taxes.

    Not just taxes - you have to be able to prove this in order to register it to start with (as a private import). Elsewise you'd have to abide by the current import laws, and I'd be surprised if a Golf would get in under those!
