Thanks guys! I was told today that the first meter and a half of the exhaust is the most important. I intend to get the down pipe first then the rest so i'll update you guys as i go. I should get it done within the next few weeks then i'll post pics and my thoughts.

242 kw ATW's from the wifes car and its a stock cat back exhaust system .
Dump pipe will work most effectlively with increased boost from a turbo , bolting on a 3 inch dump on a stock 1.8T will yield almost no difference !

I would be doing the cat back first and then doing the dump pipe.its not such a restricted pipe to be so concerned about it.maybe on ricers its a must do,but the gti?I wouldnt have bothered but the price I got was a mates rate so ceramic or not didnt concern me(you are right sov).
why dont you look at getting a TIP first and airfilter where you will notice a HUGE difference???
