    Erratic Coolant Temp Gauge

    Hi Everyone,

A while ago I posted a thread regarding what was normal in regard to the coolant temp gauge in my Mk IV (1.6)

I thought I had fixed the problem by cleaning the terminals on the temp sender unit....but the problem is back.

On most occassions, the temp gauge reads fine, but then the needle slowly drops away to read almost nothing on the gauge....and then for no apparent reason, the needle climbs back up to read normally. This can fluctuate like this all trip or it might read normally all day.

Any suggestions, is there a way of testing the sender unit, and if I were to decide to simply replace it, is there anywhere in Brisbane who sells VW parts other than the local VW Stealer

    Thanks for your help

Its infuriating when people get on here asking for fixes and then dont tell of the outcome. I tend to not offer advice in the future for them when they do that.
ntails, 99% of the time its the temperature sender unit and its a less than 5 min. job to change it mate.
    Cheers, Andrew

No probs mate, price variesw from month to month but expect it to be anywhere from $42- $55. Best to get genuine, I always use the original and they come with a 12 month warrantee.

As i stated above i had the same problem, so i purchased a new sensor ($70 from VW here in Launceston). Before i could fit it though it went back to normal. Will probably stuff up again sometime, so atleast i'll have a sensor ready when it does.
