PS - anyone wanna buy an old Valiant?
Not sure if my wife would allow a 7th car into the family but curious all the same.
    What sought of Val?
Mk IV Golf GTI - BMP - GIAC chip, R32 wheels, KW coilovers, rear swaybar.

1967 VC Regal. 225 Slant with 3 speed auto on the column. Honest country car, no rust and I've done a few bits and pieces to it. It's very original. I'm selling because I'm trying to buy a house

Cool, Best of luck selling her.
In keeping with the thread (I went off topic again), let us know how you go with the temp issue

I'm booked in to the mechanics next Friday to replace the temp sensor and thermostat. When I described the problem over the phone he came to the same conclusion you all have. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem.

Hi guys, curious on this topic as I put the 'slowness' for my engine to warm up down to the cool weather. I have also noted when at freeway speed the engine will not hit 90c and can actually drop back a fair bit from city driving temp.
It will still hit 90c but definitely takes longer with this weather - I'm just debating whether to get the thermostat done....not made of money and this car has been eating it up recently. If its going to improve economy then I'm almost convinced.

I did the thermostat replacement on my MKIV 1.6 only a week ago. Took an hour and $19 for the thermostat. If you are at all mechanically minded you should be able to do it your self.

Well the mechanic replaced the thermostat and it's running fine again. $40 for the thermostat plus labour and a bit of coolant meant it was cheaper than I expected
