how long driving before it cuts out?
Hi guys.
Hoping for some of your wisdom.
My serpentine belt was replaced by a mechanic on Friday.
Now the engine cuts out while driving.
Lights, dash, windows etc. are fine, but power steering goes off too.
Once it cuts out, it will roll over but not start. After about 30 mins to an hour it will start again.
From what I have read, the serpentine belt powers the alternator, water pump, power steering etc. in late mk4 golfs (mine is 2003).
Therefore, I suspect the serpentine belt is not functioning properly.
I'm on the other side of town to the car now so I can't do much to eliminate coil packs as a possibility.
I cleaned the MAF and replaced the battery a couple of months ago.
Similar threads (1 2) don't seem to contain any answers.
What do you all think? Anyone had a similar experience?
Cheers,
Oliver

how long driving before it cuts out?
First time it would have been about 5 - 10 mins. Second time I let it idle for 10 minutes or so, then was able to drive for about a minute. I was in the middle of a heavy traffic area, so after that, it went on the tow truck haha.

a wild guess maybe a cam angle sensor or engine speed sensor or a sensor similar has gone bust or got damaged while the car was getting serviced?
I noticed in one of the links you posted someone suggested similar.
Any chance someone can scan it for faults for you?
Sounds like an engine speed sensor.
Get it scanned. It should show up as a fault code.
