there is too much profit/money in these things hense the overflowing of goons ready to push/pull which ever way.adult like conversation? no chance,iq too low.....and always a few ready with their idiotic diversion posts to destroy a valid question.

if I had my time again ,id go haltech without a doubt.ability to alter map as your mods progress is a no brainer.and the bs that its hard to find a tuner to do it on the dyno...another ploy! mate,o/s they dont even bother with chips or haltech, they hack the stock programme and do it on the stock computer.

chips for cars is the same as handbags for women.at the end of the day, they all do the same thing, but why buy a handbag when you can have a whole set of luggage for the same price???? hahahhahahahhaa

why dont u get a chip? and then u can go to the dyno day and compare **** sizes with the best of em???? hahahhahahahhaa...its a joke...relax guys and have a laugh on me.....

I am always going to choose chipping over stand alone . Ive had both and find chipping a lot more cost effective and the mapping is a lot better than stand alone . Nobody here can honestly say that a company that does chips that usually spends hundreds of hours on the dyno be able to compare to a local tuner who spends a few hours on the dyno getting it tuned . Yes full throttle will be as good if not better than a chip , but its everything else that counts , cold starts , hot starts , a/c idle up , mid range cruise that makes a difference . Some stand alone units dont use all the sensors available to them such as knock sensors , boost sensors , exhaust gas temperature sensor/s etc . If they do then it would take a while to tune . Some stand alone units dont have the 60-2 teeth flywheel crank trigger ability . So as my conclusion if you dont do any mods out of the ordinary stick to a chip , if no chip matches what your after then your probably chasing big hp and stand alone is really the only way to go . The only exception to this would be if you tuned it yourself , stand alone would be good , but I prefer lemmiwinks instead

Bug Racer i would say that pretty much wraps it up mate , says it all Chip is built for the product rigorously tested and less fear lof full load lean outs.

Yes a chip is the easiest hassle free option of the two.

However a stand alone unit can give you much more flexibility and allow you to tune to suit your car. A chip is made to suit all cars and sometimes if you make some modifications to increase power on your car the end result would not be as good as from a chip. With a stand alone ECU you can retune the engine to take full advantage of all your engine modifications/upgrades.

If you are planning to go to a stand alone ECU I would highly recommend you find yourself a good tuner because even the best and most expensive ECU wont perform good if its not tuned right.

sounds like you have some good plans, what car is it all going into, and who will be tuning your computer, what brand ecu are you using?

does anyone use a boost controller with a chip setup? nothing fancy, just something like a dual stage which lets you set your high/low boost levels

or is the tune of the chips not agressive enough to warrant such a mod/expense?

I can see you are determined to spend some money on the Golf mate.

Not wanting to start another war here.

VW and all the aftermarket tuners have spent a great deal of time and effort getting their software correct for these applications.

It seems a bit daft to me, to start second guessing them and interfering with that.

im planning to buy a haltech computer... im getting the impression from seeing dyno charts of my car that my mods could be working a little bit more affective... plus also im going for a bigger turbo setup
