    Hi mate,

Xenons and HID (High Intensity Discharge) are one and the same and very expensive for good quality versions. To have aftermarket HID's you will need auto levelling and headlight washers to comply with the ADR's. Much cheaper and easier option would be to get a set of aftermarket projector lights with white incandescent bulbs, much cheaper and easier to install and looks almost identical. Check out ecstuning.com and tmtuning.com for some options on different styles.

    Hope this helps.

Angel eyes are just a ring around projector-style headlight assemblies. They're generally integrated into the entire headlight assembly, I'm not aware of any reliable way to retrofit angel eyes to an assembly which did not come with them.

HIDs are a different type of bulb (they use an electrical arc formed in a gas plasma to produce light, as opposed to a glowing filament) which have particular fitting requirements - must have been offered on a variation of the car from the factory (R32 covers this for the Mk4 Golf), must have auto-levelling function fitted (you can get the R32 setup to retrofit this to a car), and although many people believe that washers are a requirement in the ADRs, they're not actually mentioned in the current documents (they are a requirement in Europe however, and thus most cars that come with them are already set up with washers anyway).

You should not retrofit HIDs to reflector-style headlights (as per the stock Mk4 Golf ones on all models other than the R32) - it's illegal (and opens you up to all sorts of risks), and because the electrical arc runs in a different direction to the filament in standard bulbs (and produces a lot more light), the geometry of reflectors isn't suitable, and you'll end up spraying light all over the place (which is useless and potentially dazzling/dangerous for other drivers).

Some headlight assemblies come with tinted surrounding areas, but the reflectors and lenses themselves cannot be tinted.

I have been able to source genuine Hella Celis projector-style headlights suitable for RHD markets (Australia) for the Mk4 Golf. PM me for details if you wish.
    Nothing to see here...

Have you seen the Hella Celis I just bought? I posted a pic in the 'what have you done mk4' thread. If you want angle eyes Hella are the way to go. Cheaper options are Inpro or FK. The Hella Celis also come with black surrounding.
