regarding taxes and duty, apparently due to a free trade agreement, there is no duty on car parts from the states, so you only pay 10% gst on shipments over a grand?

    Is this right?

Parts have to be manufactured in America to be exempt I think.

This is only valid for parts manufactured in the country with which we have a free trade agreement. The majority of parts for our cars are manufactured in Europe - components for our cars are made in places like Hungary, Poland, etc.

so basically did they add 5% duty to the whole of the last order?

We are awaiting correspondence from our customs broker regarding the exact amount which will be charged, but the understanding we have after significant research is that we will be charged 5% duty on the invoice cost of the parts, and then 10% GST on the total value of the shipment including duty and freight charges.

And this is all before customs broker fees as well. I believe the few cents per dollar that we gained with a favourable exchange rate will cover this.

I've unstickied this thread, as apart from two Sydney orders with known statuses to myself and the buyers, it's all done and dusted. New thread for the follow-up GB coming shortly!
