ECS Flapper (Mod) Wiring Kit - Not Functioning

Hoping someone has an answer to this one. I had the ECS kit wired in to my MKIV R32 by a local VW specialist and be buggered if we can get the damn thing to work - checked the voltage, checked the fuse and it just doesn't kick in. Is there a known difference to the US spec (and hence install instructions) to AUS models?

Did you get a hold of the right wire as it comes in and runs down the passenger side as opposed to having been swapped over to the drivers side as you'd expext? Have a chat to Graeme86 as he has done it himself (only an on/off system though as far as I'm aware).

Removed the kick panel in the passenger footwell and have a look at the bound lume, there is a grey wire with a thin blue strip. thats the one you need to chop, also dont forget to use a resistor as i have heard it can throw a CEL if you dont, had my in for bout six month now working great..

Its hilarious, when wankers in SS's pull up next to you and rev their v8s, just hit the ESP button, flick the flap open, kiss the limiter and watch their jaws drop as you leave them in the dust and in jealousy of your superior sounding narrow angle staggered VR6 motor..... Best sounding 6 cylinder motor ever made me thinks.....

Couldn't agree more regarding the sweet note of this VR6 motor...Will be that much better when I can get it sorted.

Firstly, on the Aussie R32 the two wires are pretty well separate from the main harness in the passenger lower A pillar and are right next to the corrugated tube that runs to the back for the vacuum flapper (vacuum "supply" tube)

Secondly, there is also another thinner grey/blue wire that people sometimes cut in error, but that is actually in the main harness on ours.

The wire we want is right next to the yellow/black wire (which is the other wire running back to the solenoid). Both these wires are 1.0mm², so quite thick compared to some others in harness.

The grey/blue wire is actually the earth from the solenoid. The ECU earths this wire when it wants the flapper to be quiet.

Does it do anything at all at the moment - like always loud or always quiet?

There is no change to the system at all (kicks in at 3000rpm and speed >70kmh) - however I need to reconfirm wire location for the non earth wires as the position described is different to where the kit was wired (from memory).

why go through all this trouble? Just pull the hose off the vacuum pump next to the rear muffler and all done. I've done this 3.5 years ago and i've been enjoying the sound ever since. Its not loud at all, so you will never want it back to stock

Just make sure you also block the vacuum pipe you pull off if you do this.
