not to mention that as good as the flat 5's look, they probably weight a ishtpile more than the stock polo gti wheels, and fitting them would likely:

    a) make the car look like a rollerskate (you could wind your coilies all the way down and take out the perches and it'd still be sitting 22cm's off the deck)
    b) obliterate the handling/steering feel/response/cornering performance in almost every way possible
    c) add enough weight to feel like it's offsetting any performance advantage that you gained from remapping the car.

but that's the boring old man in me talking.

i gotta say, dylan - i approve, big time, regarding your "3 sets" policy (stock, dope daily, show)...

i was starting to get worried that you were forking out like $3000 per set of wheels, per show, then selling them and dropping big cash on new secret wheels for the next show, only to have people approve again for a day, and then sell and re-buy another $3k set of wheels lol... 3 years worth of shows and you could buy yourself a porsche or something!

but mad props for being someone who's willing to put it on the line to represent for australia... it was only a few years ago that this kind of thing would never have been seen here, not in dinky-di land-down-unduh... (at least not with euro marques)

Pretty much on the money Ryan, im downgrading to a space saver so i can run dual fuel and fit the extra tank without losing too much boot space

not as simple as winding the coils down, im not sure what sort of widths on the front fill from the strut to the arch on a polo but at my height a 8.5 is about as big as you can go without lowering more or pulling arches and avoiding poke. i would like the car a cm or so lower all round in regards to wheel-arch gap. but my coilovers are on the top of stretch already... even without the helpers i cant get any lower. I did find a solution without reducing suspension travel or doing major body work, people who have done the same method claim a 1" extra drop, but i can only see 3/4" max drop possible... and even then im was more confident in the extra 1/2" drop.

HAHA yeah my wheel collection has gone silly, i never planned for it to happen, just did. im very happy with what iv learnt from it though in regards to offsets, adapters, tyres, widths, rubbing. most of the OS crew will run a set of wheels for summer shows and then change, i ran 4 different sets in 2011 too the 4 shows i went to.

    NATS'11 Teledials
    GAF'11 BBS LM
    DOVW'11 Flat5s
there also was the Axis Pentas in between which made it to a dyno day before Nationals
also was a set of BBS RSIIs and BBS RS that have never seen the hub on any of my cars.

Problem was I was never happy with how the car and wheels sat at the shows. they were always a big rush the night before to get them atleast on the car. Nats my car was lifted about inch all round, GAF we wound the rear up the night before just in fear of how it would sit with luggage in the car for the drive, DOVW i would have liked the car the cm lower or so but just never got around to installing the lowering gear properly

few random pics off my phone

having to walk to the beach carpark because Parks installed some PITA speed bumps. the bumps actually would bottom out my bora at stock height with the 18s giving it some lift, but lucky they have gone down a few cm in height over the past 2 years

big bump in the road at traralgon = damaged sump, belted under side of the car... all that asphalt you can see is actually now baked there, weight gain for the loss

stock height mk3 VR and slightly lower mk4 bora

a while back someone asked how much room I had under the car (cant find the post to PM). offical measurer's silver dub came up with "I cant get the camera close enough to the ground" and trickysimon came up with "2 fingers" to the subframe.
Turns out my rear beam has been touching the body, not sure what the go there is as I have my perches and adjusters still in in the rear.
