I had this happen to Mr a few weeks ago. Check fuse 14 I think it is. It's located in you drivers door. Replaced it and everything worked

G'Day ,
I have recently purchased a '99 GTI Golf from the auctions. While the majority of the car (body and mechanicals) are in good condition, the electrics are presenting a few issues.
The main issues are:
Central locking doesn't work from the key and when locked from the drivers door window control panel, all doors lock and then unlock themselves straight away (don't stay locked).
The interior lights work when switched on manually, but not in the door selection. The red lights on the door cards work at random.
I'm guessing this is related to the door modules? From what I've read on the net there is a cracked solder problem for the central locking and maybe a stuffed microswitch for the interior light? I've had the fuse box out and all the connections and wiring look ok there.
The other main problem is the rear L/H door doesn't open from the outside. It is opening from the inner handle ok. Will this be the outside handle cable tension being too high, or could it also be related to the door modules?

Was pretty stoked thinking that might work... but nope... I'm thinking it's the door modules with cracked solder.. Anyone else got a quick fix that doesn't involve me and a soldering iron
The door handle pulls a cable, the cable attaches with a black plastic cli. I suspect this clip has come off. Pull the handle out and look into the gap to see if it is connected. Handle will have no resistance if cable is not connected. You maybe able to reconnect without removing anything.

for the central locking. Can you roll the windows up with the key in the door lock? Have you tried slamming all the doors, front hood and rear hatch?
Thanks for the link, good photo's there. I can't see the black clip with the door handle pulled out, so will start there.
Unfortunately none of the suggestions have helped to sort out this issue.
I will be pulling my door linings off and checking the solder on the circuit boards / checking microswitch operation.... sigh
The RAF spent thousands training me to solder if you are worried about that, I don't mind doing it if you can get the parts to me.
At the airport on earlies monday-wednesday and lates thursday-saturday
