Door light broken?

Has anyone else here had the problem that their door light (ie. the one above the centre dash) is only ever on when put in the 'door' position (no matter if this door is opened or closed). It should only turn on when a door is open right?

I've read some stuff about it could be the switch inside the front door hinges that need to be cleaned/replaced or whatever. But when i open those doors the little red lights (at the bottom of the doors) still turn on.

What could it be?

if its on the "door" position and still on, it must be the door switch.get a sparky to test for you or disconnect the switches yourself and test it.
dont forget the interior switch has 3 settings,middle left and right.

i just had a thought that it could be the switches on either of the back doors or maybe the hatch as well that could be constantly open... i haven't checked those at all... !!

yeah, looks like i might need to d/c the switch and test it then!...
i guess while i have the door open i can check if those window clips have been changed as well... i have no idea at the moment!

ok ok... .turns out i'm just being dumb.

i didn't realise the door light would turn off automatically after a certain time.

never had a car that did that before, that's pretty neat.

i wonder what other things i will discover

does it turn off once you have locked the car? or when you have turned the ignition on? if you dont do either of these then the lights stay on for about 30sec and then dim off.
what makes you think earlier that the window clips needed checking?

yeah... it turns off once i lock the car/turn on the ignition.
i only thought it was broken cos when i'm sitting in the car, with all the doors closed and put it in the door position, the light turns on but yeah, i see that's obviously intended now!

as for teh window clips, it works fine at the moment...it just seemed like something everyone seems to have to change at some point.... so i thought if it hadn't been fixed i might pre-empt it breaking

i'm sure my laziness will get teh better of me though. especially while it still works fine.

MATE!!! its such a bitch of a job that I wouldnt be fiddling with it unless you have to!.. if the window closes ok now,then your ok.if its slugish then you have a prob.I think from memory the parts are $117 from vw,but they will try to sell you the whole kit for $700!!! as the $117kit has just the clips and the new wires,which are a pain to fit,BUT its possible!! if you are in Sydney,contact WILLIAM on here and he will give you a hand as he has done it heaps of times....
