DIY: TT Style Vent Guard Mod (for 1.8t's)

I did this mod quite sometime ago, infact almost over a year now but keep forgetting to post it up and explaining it to people is a little difficult.

This is for 1.8t cars only, if your NA there is NO benefit of this mod what so ever. For the turbo cars this is definately worthwhile as your SMIC doesn't get any flow out from the rear of your splash guard. Air goes in, however doesnt come out so no real constant airflow. You'll definately notice the improvement especially in traffic and for chipped cars.

Pictures been nabbed from the Vortex but you get the idea.

What you need: Torx Bits (as usualy), Mesh or some sort of Venting.
(other option is to buy a OEM Audi TT splash guard which fits directly back with the vent already there).

    1) Take off your wheel (driver side), then your Splash Guard/Liner which has bout 10-12 torx screws holding it in.

    2) measure up and cut your splash guard up to where your intercooler would flow behind. (fairly easy, take a rough guess but cut smaller maybe incase you go too big so you can just cut more out)

    3) add your vent, or mesh depending on what you'd rather do (which ever ghetto mod works cheaper for you lol). i suggest if you do use either spray paint it flat black again after fitting it so its not noticable/stealth when its all put back together on your car

Once you've completed putting your mesh it and spraying it up. Refit it back to your guard and you'll have a somewhat better flowing intercooler finally.

Hope that helps to who ive been explaining it too last few weeks at Sebs lol.

i'll post up pics in the next few days of mine with the mesh, but as i said if you'd rather get a Audi TT OEM Splash Guard you can also do that!

After having a look at an S3 inner guard I did a similar thing a while ago, except rather than inserting a vent I pulled the guard off, got a drill and drilled a series of holes just behind the smic.

A little bit of a ghetto mod but it doesn't look to bad if you have a steady drill hand and a sharp drill bit!
